Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and dark forces increasing in power within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as important members in the powerful family could help the group reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Fans can anticipate discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
